Agreed. Doing stuff in perl or any other scripting language might be slow, I'm guessing that compiled code would be fast enough for most applications. I'd also submit that playing with the cyrus.* files on a running system is just asking for trouble. FWIW, there is no documentation on the cyrus.* files other than the source code.
