OK, it's in the manual...but it's still Mac centric. Try doing any of this without a mac...
I note that Windows Jpeg programs that I have looked at do not support transparent colors. Transparent areas are supported I GIF format, but IM doesn't support GIF. I doubt it is currently possible to create properly functionign icons with a Mac.
