entering the imei from the iPhone is probably the most unreliable
method of security, and the most objectionable requirement I could
imagine!

my imei number is between me and my phone service provider.

If the user is a customer, use a customer number.
for a casual site, use a user chosen name.

all done with JavaScript, cookies, CGI, server logins, or any
standard web security model.
