One way might be to use a sorta call-back approach...

1) person goes to your site, and registers their email-address or
phone-mumber(for SMS).
2) when they want to login, they enter their email-address, and your
server sends a special link to their email account, or SMS's to their
phone, with a clickable link that expires in a certain time(sorta like
a one-day pass).

The problem with something like this is that there would be a delay in
how the user gets to the main site, and they might get frustrated if
they have to exit the browser to check their mail for the new link.
