I like the generic increment even if we both think it's in the wrong location.
Maybe we should file a new hbase jira to make the BaseMetricsSource have a
generic increment and decrement only. Then if we try and do a set on something
that was created as a counter it can be "promoted" to a gauge. Thoughts ?
