I agree about the module parameter, but a volume fine-tune (Equalize?) could just as easily be implemented as an ioctl and still have the same effect. MythTV and other applications could still control the "Master Volume" via the existing ioctl. A different 'Equalize' setting could be sent to each specific card via ioctl and would not be overidden by the master volume setting.
