I see from other list traffic that you have already decided your patch
won't completely fix the problem of dissimilar volume for different
card types at the same volume setting. I can see two possible fixes:
1) The one you are already working on, scaling the PVR-150/500 volume
setting to get the same gain as a PVR-250/350 for any particular setting.
2) Modifing ivtv to accept a volume fine-tuning adjustment or bias,
either as a module parameter or via ioctl:
volume = 0xff - ((volume + volume_tweak) >> 8);

Try my patch from yesterday night. It doesn't have a module
option, but you can set the volume with an ivtvctl -Y volume=(number
between 0-65535)
