so, to my understanding, all 14f series chips register names like SSPCON_CKP, and 18f chips have SSP1CON_CKP (according to devicefiles.html)
William, I would consider your original init routine to be "buggy" since it will not work with 18f chips. So, we can either remove the init routine, or create a new one.
