This is the only question I feel like able to answer: It's no problem via SPI. If it is uncompressed audio, I2C can not even transmit 44.1 khz, mono, 8bit. Are you going to use a hardware mp3 decoder? I'm thinking about a player for uncompressed pcm, in that case the 16F887 would be no fun, as it is probably too slow.
