Well, it is an option since you only need to change the device include
block and pins. PIC18F4458 should be good (2kb ram). I see it runs up
to 48mhz which is great.

Will USB use a lot of the 2kb ram? This could be an issue. Are you
planning to use USB?

that is not the purpose of those pins, but you are right, it should
not be difficult to change the code. You can see the variable
"pata_hd_slave" in the hard disk library. It is untested, but changing
it may change between master/slave.

Sorry, I had only read quickly earlier. I've thought about just using
slave SPI devices to attach other things you need.

If you add radio, one PIC can control the hard disk and mp3 player. A
separate PIC can control the radio. No data transfer needs to be done
through each of these, you just need a way to switch the headphone
jack audio from MP3 to Radio and others. Doing data transfer is
probably a waste of resources, but maybe you have another reason for
doing so. You will need resources/speed to keep up with high data rate
music files.

I think you can use VS1053B for "audio in" and microphone.

I was just letting you know my plans. I would like to complete a
portable player, and also a player for my car. The player for my car
will hopefully have WIFI for updating songs over night as I sleep. I
also have no spare cash, this is why my project remains incomplete.

I'm not sure if the GLCD thing is going to work out for me, it is too
much for PIC. I'm going to try PIC18F46K22 at 64mhz. I think drawing
text may still be slow. I was even thinking about going with a
dedicated GLCD graphics device , does anyone know any good ones?

I have also seen on the net that some people put more then one 4x20
LCD beside each other to make a big lcd.

Matt.
