Indeed. I plan on using it with the software plugin for FLAC playback... which means it'll be able to play all of my digital media.

Also wrote a fat32 library. One PIC is enough for this MP3 player project. I
have
done so myself.

I'm sure it is... but as I said in my previous email... I chose to do it this way, in an effort to make this player highly modular.
Also... this isn't supposed to be a portable media player... far from it.
This device is going to be housed in an old stereo receiver box.

I only suggest a second PIC to drive a graphical lcd. I am trying to
add a glcd to my mp3 player project.

At the moment... I'm limited by physical space in the device I have to a 2x20 character LCD. When I get the chance I'll probably upgrade it to a graphical LCD that will fit the spot I have available for the LCD.

Maybe try the sample:

If you need USB, this one can be modified. This is a 3.3v PIC. hard
disks will run on a 3.3v PIC.

I currently have 4 PIC18F4458's and 4 PIC16F887's... so those are the chips I intend to use. I don't have any spare cash on hand to buy others... so that's NOT an option.

I recently bought a 120gb 2" hard disk the normally fits in an IPOD,
I'll try to connect that as well. I even got a IPOD battery I gotta
try.

Cool.

I did not add 48bit addressing to pata hard disk yet, I am planning
to:) Maybe start with one hard drive, I'll try to have time to test
this for you.

The multiple hard drives isn't the issue here... as your current library should be able to handle both without issue.
It's the size of the drives that is the issue.

I need a MINIMUM of 320GB per drive (640GB total), simply due to the sheer size of my music collection.

When I get my device built... I'll be more than happy to help you test the 48bit code.

The goals of this project is as follows:
1.) A flexible, modular design
2.) Ability to play all of my digital media
3.) Ability to listen to and record FM Radio
4.) Be completely standalone... ie., no computer needed
5.) Be powerful enough to fill a room with good quality music
6.) Be easy to use
