The second link (170KB) is working out of the box using PicKit 2.61 under
Windows. In order to use pk2cmd under Linux, you'll need to modify app_cmd.h
(IIRC). I can find a thread about this if you like.

Mmmh.... I read PicKit3 can adjust Vpp programming voltage, but not PicKit2.
Still it's working... don't know how long...
