Hi, the short answer is no. a drop box link via yor "Public" dropbox folder can be used by anyone you send it to and they do not need dropbox in the free or paid setup. The only time one needs to have drop box on your computer and on the person you are sharing files with is when you are using a "shared" folder of which you ot the other party has invited one to share a folder that links your PC and theirs. When this happens whatever you put in that shared folder shows up on their PC in a folder of the same name and vice versa. HTH Robin East
