fyi: yet another smtp/xmpp gateway is at: http://xmpppy.sourceforge.net/mail/

smtp --> xmpp : transport scans a maildir for files
xmpp --> smtp : transport sends via localhost smtp

It works seemlessly for all local users. It doesn't require
registration, etc, so doesn't work for remote users. It could be
tweaked pretty easily to support remote servers as well.
