The best text editor I have found is Crimson Editor http://www.crimsoneditor.com/ It is small, fast, and free. It has syntax highlighting for over 50 languages. Key stroke recorder for macros. You can setup up hot keys to compile, then execute, the code your working on. It even has an output window built in. It has a bunch of other features built in. I tried a lot of editors before I found this one.
