Kellie,
I wish I could help you with that specific problem but I can't. However, I
think you have now realized Win 9x is still not all that stable and that when
you get a GPF or an illegal operation you should immediately try to save your
work and close all the open applications and restart.
I know it is a pain but that will at least reduce those unwanted complete
crashes that are bound to come after such errors occur.
Having said all that, one thing you might try as you feel that it has to do
with the application sound feedback. Go to the options or setup for those
applications and turn off the use of sound feedback. I know that both Word and
Outlook 97 have such settings.

crash. I have the appropriate box regarding WAB files and software synths
checked in the JFW settings. The problem generally occurs when I am typing
quite quickly and the synth seems to get left behind. My typing echo is set
to words.
