Many of you might know this already but I recently helped a friend with this
so thought I'd share with the list.
If you've gotten behind on your email -- a frequent problem for me -- set
Outlook to sort it the way you prefer to read it -- select View, current
View, Customize current view and sort and then pick the fields you want to
sort by. JFW330.26 fixes focus tracking troubles with these dialog boxes so
they're now pretty easy to read.
After it is all sorted -- I like oldest to newest by subject, and I like the
messages in a list view -- use ctrl-home to go to the top, then
shft-ctrl-end to select them all. I don't think that CTRL-A, the select all
hotkey will work right here -- it did not work for me.
After the messages are all selected, do File Save As and save it as a text
file. Now you can fire up Wordpad to read the stuff. I do a search for
"From:" to jump quickly to the next message and bypass the quotes.
This method works great for getting through twenty back issues of say the
JFW digest.
I've used this with Exchange and Outlook 97 and 98 as well as OUtlook
Express. What's nice with express, is that after you save em as a text
file, you now have a cursor to review text with and select and copy tidbits
of interest.
Another good thing about the JFW 330.26 patch is that it appears to fix the
focus tracking problems with the Rules wizard. That feature is more reliable
for me now and it was easy to get all my mailing lists to filter into their
own separate folders. You could periodically save a whole folder with the
method described above and ship it to a Braille 'n' Speak for reading on
your commute.
