Using jfw32 and Outlook Express and IE4.01, I read mail quickly by using
the control+u command, which takes me from one unread message to another
unread message. Since Outlook Express will keep your mail in your inbox
under two categories like "read" and "unread", using this method is quicker
to move through the unread messages. If you wish to reply to a message just
control+r, write your message, then send/receive control+m, and the email is
sent, and if new unread messages are loaded, they are just stacked in with
the other unread or read messages in the inbox.
If I like the person who wrote the message or the message has a subject line
I like I press the enter key on the numpad, the one on the bottom right
corner to open the message.
If I don't want to deal with that particular message, no matter who it is
from or what subject it is, I just press the escape key to close the opened
message then the delete key, the one next to the enter key on the numpad.
Sometimes when a message is opened it takes a page down command numpad3 and
a numpad 9 in order to toggle on the automatic reading, if it has a toggle
on feature, that must be it. Then I can read the message as I would any
other message.
When I complete reading of the message, I close the message using the escape
key, which places me back into the inbox list view. Then if I don't want to
read or reply to that message, I just press the delete key. It is gone.
If I am in a hurry to get a name or address I can do control+r arrow down
the message, select, copy and paste any information I wish anywhere I whish.
When replying to a message be sure you are sending the message to the person
you want to get the message. Otherwise the list server will get messages
intended for specific individuals or senders of the original message.
Since we are all experiencing high noise, try this method. It only takes a
second or two to delete an unwanted message from your inbox. I like to see
the variety of messages and subject lines on the jfw list serve and on
several other list serves I am on. I can usually go through a hundred or so
messages per half hour, that is decide whether I want to read them or delete
them. After this first decision is made I can take my leisure to read them
or reply to them, because they are just sitting in the inbox, bothering no
one. So if you want to put yourself under undue pressure of having an empty
inbox, learn to live with the stress. Let the rest of us speak freely.
