i suppose you spell 'kula' as gula. i find this very interesting. there are so many gods to protect hindus but they all seem pretty short of protectors. as for acceptance, what better than accepting the caste system and making sure that peope remain divided despite their so called freedom to have whatever god they wish. also the freedom to deny entry to templs and freedom to worship to many castes. long live divisiveness.
the freedom to worship kings, that makes this piece even more interesting. so people look upon humans not as humans but annoint them gods because they have power. shows the mindset. worship the powerful, let the powerless remain happy in their freedom to worship as many gods as they want to....wonderful philosophy! don't misunderstand me, i am not saying one god is the answer. that gives rise to many other questions too, to have one god and then to have so many sects giving the same god's words so many interpretations and fight about it does not do that god any credit. one god should be able to make sure that communication problems don't occur and people don't fight since he would not be saddled with the extra responsibilty of fighting other gods. i use the male gender for of course one god is never a female. actually the question weshould ask is why do we need a god at all? he made the world, if you insist he did, now his job is done so let us talk about making life richer with art and literature and justice and rational discussions. that should make the god or gods you believe in happy too. i don't beleive in god. i think being good to others, treating others as equal is the basis of a just life. to be good like that because it is a good thing to do is far more moral than being good only because you expect rewards in heaven. you see atheists are selfless that way! anjali deshpande
