Folks,

I am feeling somewhat guilty/sheepish/embarrassed about the Jmol v10
*beta* program. I would like your input so that I can relieve my
conscience ... and sleep better at night :-)

In the commercial software world, a *beta* program is supposed to be for
code that is about ready to ship and go out the door. You are fixing bugs,
not adding features. That is what I had in mind when I released the the
v10b1 release back in November.

However, since then a large number of enhancements have been made ...
requiring code changes that go far beyond what would be tolerated in a
formal *beta* program. Rather, we have entered a period of *rolling
development*.

For me, this is not just a terminology thing. I think that it is important
to have formal releases. It is a formal time to fix bugs (as opposed to
adding new features), update documentation and to reprioritize before
taking the next step.

With that context, I would like to solicit opinions and feedback on a few
things:

Q: Would we pick up more users if we did an official release? That is, are
there people who will not use the beta, but would start using an official
Jmol v10?

Q: Jmol v10 does not support a number of things that were in Jmol v8. This
includes broader file type support, animations, vibrations, etc. Is the
absence of these things a *show stopper* for you?

Q: What features do you believe are *missing* from Jmol v10b5 as it exists
today? (Please list your highest-priority item first)

Q: What do *you* recommend?

Q: Any other comments?

Thanx,
Miguel
