To get the RasMol/Chime orientation with your *right* hand 1. put your right elbow in the air 2. put your right hand in front of your face 3. turn the palm *away* from you 4. make your thumb, index finger, and middle finger "assume the position" This gives you: thumb goes to the right -> +X index finger goes down -> +Y middle finger goes away -> +Z I believe that this is the orientation that RasMol/Chime uses and that Jmol uses when it is in 'Axes RasMol/Chime' mode The other orientation is: 1. right elbow at your side 2. right hand in front of your face 3. looking at your palm 4. make your thumb, index finger, and middle finger "assume the position" This gives you: thumb goes to the right -> +X index finger goes up -> +Y middle finger points towards you -> +Z This orientation is the orientation used by OpenGL. It seems preferable to me because it has the +Y axis pointing upwards. This is the orientation that you get in older versions of Jmol (before RasMol/Chime compatibility became a goal). This is the orientation that you get if you turn off 'Axes RasMol/Chime' mode. Thanks for responding ... and I hope this helps.
