I’m having trouble getting jsmol to work with gzipped files. I’ve downloaded
jmol 14.0.4, and I’m using the Jmol2.js library (is “library" the right
descriptive name for that file?). I’m serving the files using apache, as
configured by Apple’s Mavericks “Server” app, to myself and I’m accessing the
web pages in Safari. I think I’m doing it all in html5 using only the files in
the “j2s” directory.

When I serve non-gzipped files (.cub, .pdb) the few things I’ve tried work as
expected. When I serve gzipped files, I get errors.

"JmolCore.js: synchronous binary file transfer is requested but not available”

followed by

"Error connecting to server:
http://your.server.here/jsmol.php?call=getRawDataFromDatabase&database=_&query=http%3A%2F%2Fwine-and-crackers.local%2Fchem%2Fbiochem%2F2ndary_struct%2F1ado.pdb.gz&encoding=base64";

Is JSmol really trying to get a file from “your.server.here”? or is that just
how the error is being reported?

I searched the Jmol2.js file for the string “your.server” but found nothing
there. Did I miss a configuration step? I also searched the list, but the other
similar messages that I found (a) I didn’t understand and (b) the messages
suggested that the problem was solved when a bug was fixed.

Any help is greatly appreciated if our campus server would serve files with
endings like “.cub”, “.pdb, “.mol”, etc. it wouldn’t be a big deal, but it
won’t, so it is.

Thanks,
Chris
