I think it is not neccessarily the people of the US (though there is that
phrase the ugly American that has been around for awhile & does have some
truth to it) but US foreigh policy that has created this sentiment.

For some reason no one told me I had Irish in me. Can you imagine? I found
it out when looking through my Grandmothers scrapbooks at the newsclipping
of her family in Kentucky who the article said had named their land after
their Irish homestead. It was like a huge lightbulb went off- of course! So
sadly, I got no old stories...
