Randy, you diverge from Tolkien's image completely. To him they were indeed small humanoids with big hairy feet, no trace of squirelly-ness. But that is the wonder of reading isn't it? You make everything exactly what you need it to be. But please do go to the movie. It is wondrous and certainly a worthy homage to the work. Given the limitations of compressing the epic sweep, I can't imagine a much better production. (Except for a bit more emphasis on the magic that was the very fabric of Middle Earth, but then that would have added another hour.) Ranger Rick
