- you cannot rotate icons. There is already an (old) patch for this, see http://josm.openstreetmap.de/ticket/10217
- you cannot offset icons, only text. There is a ticket for this, see http://josm.openstreetmap.de/ticket/10216 - the default font, which the mappaint uses, is Droid Sans. You can change this within mapcss with "font-family".
