I'll throw in my $.02 here...
I am using CF in my current job... we also use
XML, PeopleSoft, SQLServer 2000 and a little ASP. I don't have much to do with
the ASP stuff, but might get more involved as time goes by.
I know that Sprint uses CF (internally at least),
as well as Hallmark, the USDA, Union Station/Science City and Jack Henry.
Those are the ones that I can remember off the top of my head... I know there
is also a mortgage company or two in town that are using CF, but I can't
remember the names off the top of my head.
My current project is fairly diverse. Primarily I
am doing an e-commerce site, but that includes an integration with PeopleSoft
and also Good mobile devices (kind of a fancy alternative to Blackberry). I
will also be doing some intranet work for them.
That is my full time job for Shorr Packaging
Corp. out of Aurora, IL (and I will be moving up there next month). I also do
freelance work where I can find it -- here in KC and all around the country.
The freelance work is more contract based, and most of the stuff I have found
in KC has been contract, but, as I mentioned above, my current job is
full-time with full benefits.
I, too, learned CF trial-by-fire. They basically
handed me the Ben Forta CF 3.0 book and said here is the site, here is the
book, have fun. It took me a little under a month to pick up enought that I
felt I knew what was going on and to be comfortable starting to write
production code for the site (This was with a computer-supply catalog company
in 1998).

Subject: [KCFusion] OT Chatter
Here are some questions that might get some
chatter going...
How many people are actively using Cold Fusion
in their jobs?
What companies in KC use Cold
Fusion?
What kind of a project are you currently
involved in?
Are you involved in multiple projects at the same
time?
Are CF jobs usually temp/contract work or are
the jobs full time/full benefits kind of work?
How did you learn CF?
