Turns out I was creating a template for a QML application.
I just tried a "Graphical C++ KDE” with the same sad result.
But when I tried “Minimal C++ KDE” it worked!
No crash, the application window comes up.
So, I guess my speculation about the failing access to the application’s
configuation files might not be that wrong...
