Dear Kopete users. Like previous year, Google announced the new installment of their Summer of Code project. http://google-code-updates.blogspot.com/2006/04/summer-of-code-2006.html
Basically, Google will pay some student to work on a free software project during the summer. Student need to commit their idea to Google, then, active developper comment and sort ideas. Then Google select the most interesting one. We may suggest a (non-exhaustive) list of ideas for students. Have you some ideas ? Task should be hard enough to have a chance to be selected by google, but easy enough to be done by a single person in 3 months We are maybe considering registering Kopete alone as a mentoring organisation This may happen only if there are enough interested proposals, and enough interrested students. (If there is not, we will still participating as KDE sub-projet) Some basic ideas: - implement a new protocol feature-full (or almost) - port to kde4 an unmaintained protocol or plugin (and improve it) - good jingle video/audio support. (that include use Phonon, and make the avdevice config page working) - (Win32 port) ? http://bugs.kde.org/buglist.cgi?product=kopete&component=New%20plugin%20wishes&bug_status=UNCONFIRMED&bug_status=NEW If you have more ideas, please write them, we will pick some to put on the wiki. Note: Our participation to google soc has not been confirmed yet.
