Then let me rephrase that, we have a system so dominated by two parties
and our current voting system is so tuned to this system that any 3rd party
which gains anything less than a dominating percentage of votes results
in the candidate most unlike the two other parties having the majority of
the votes. ie, the 3rd party splits voters from the "mainstream" party most
like it.

it just does not work for an n Party system where n>2 and though I am an
undeclared voter, I must vote for the candidate who'll do the least harm 
based on what harm could conceivably be done.

I'm open to suggestions on how this is not the case.
