I have worked on projects at places where CNBC or some other far mor inane

When I was getting my oil changed, I went to the "business" area to get
away from the TV. Normally, it is fairly quiet. This young person plops
down in the chair next to me, pulls out a DVD player and starts watching
something, without headphones.

So, I did what some might consider rude, I asked him if he had any
headphones, and then I told him I'd come to this area to get away from the
TVs. He seemed kind of annoyed, but ended up just turning the DVD player
off.

To me, playing music or a movie, out loud, in a public place is just
downright rude. I guess I must just not bother some people, and they don't
seem to even comprehend how much it could bother someone else.

If I actually had to work next to a TV or radio, I would simple inform them
that if they wanted me to be able to work, they would have to turn the
music/TV off while I worked. I do listen to music at home, but never while
I'm trying to concentrate on something.
