 finally made the connection that if I got rid of the infernal racket, I
 didn't have to live with a constant headache.

Nonsense? That is a bit harsh. I simply said I "guess."

Indeed I find it easier to concentrate when their is a continuous
stream of activity around me.

So you cannot. I can. Sorry you have this problem.
Ordinary television I can tune out. But my wife's native language is Spanish, which I still have difficulty understanding, particularly in a noisy environment. But my brain wants to know what is being said in Spanish, so my wife's novellas and news shows are impossible for me to ignore. They give me headaches. The news programs are particularly bad because of the high speed, sing-song, whining sound of their voices.
