Nonsense. I grew up around blaring TVs. Once I got out of the house, I finally made the connection that if I got rid of the infernal racket, I
didn't have to live with a constant headache.

Nonsense? That is a bit harsh. I simply said I "guess."

Sorry, yes it was too harsh. It's just frustrating when it extends to
people telling me that I need to "learn" to ignore the TV, or something
like that.

 Some people can, some cannot.

So you cannot. I can. Sorry you have this problem.

I wouldn't go so far as to call it a problem. I'm sorry that other people
seem to ignore everything that goes on around them and miss much of what
happens. When I'm in a good environment, I've found I'm able to
concentrate better than many people are in any environment.

A lot of neurological differences are about differing tradeoffs.

And no few are about pain. I'm frequently in pain (I have severe arthritis of the spine, particularly of the upper spine). I do know that when I'm hurting badly, about two days a week, I become exceedingly difficult to live with and I find it very difficult to ignore any nuisance. That my wife is still with me after being barked at so often is a testimonial to her endurance.

I can't use Aspirin or NSAIDs because I'm a bleeder. Tylenol doesn't do much for me but is sometimes my only recourse. I burn alcohol off too quickly for it to do much good. Opiates make me constipated. When I hurt I become anti-social. Then I try to find someplace to hide until the pain goes away, someplace dark and quiet. It takes very little to set me off when I'm hurting. When I have a migraine, any light or noise can drive me up the wall.

When I'm pain-free, I can tolerate a lot, even Spanish-language television. All too often, though, I can't tolerate anybody or anything.
