If DSL is available for you, I'll add an enthusiastic "go for it" to the
mix.  I've set up several of the AT&T ones, if you sign up online, you
get free wireless router and the $14.99/month rate.  But dslextreme.com
seems a good deal as well.

I wouldn't bother with the higher speed DSL for home use, unless you
download tons of ISOs.  The difference of always on and the speed will
take care of you well, and if not, upgrading to the faster one is simple
once things are installed.
