I don't think anybody's said there was an issue with the Ellison running ram air.  I did it with N56ML and still do with N891JF with no problem.  The Ellison issue is that the pressure regulator diaphragm housing that's built onto the Ellison is prone to vapor locking if exposed to too much heat (if only a few inches from an un-shielded exhaust pipe, for example), especially on a hot day during a fuel stop with a long taxi involved before takeoff.

 Both of these planes were set up for ram air under normal circumstances, with a cable-operated flapper sealing off ram air and sucking air from a heat muff under the cowling for winter use and prevention of carb ice.

The Posa ram air is what got Jim Hill's KR in trouble.
