DVDs in the UK and Europe are region 2. USA is region 1. Some specialised
DVDs do not have a region code.
US DVDs can't be played on UK DVD players unless the DVD player is multi
region or if instructions are followed from a DVD region hack web site to
change the region of the DVD - haven't found a menu function to do this on
any of our 4 DVD players. This involved putting in a code via the remote
control. Don't know if US DVDs can be played on a UK computer.
Lacemaking DVDs produced for the first time as DVDs by Hensel Productions do
not have a region code and should be able to be played anywhere, but some
equipment might not like them. I know a couple of people have had problems
playing the Hensel DVDs, eg the Chantilly lace one by Lia Baumeister, on DVD
players, but they have played fine on a computer. Don't know whether the
lace DVDs originally produced as videos and then converted to DVDs have a
region code. I think all of the Springett videos were PAL for the UK and
NTSC for the US. Later video recorders could play NTSC videos.
I bought a couple of lace DVDs (Flanders and Chantilly) direct from Hensel
Productions and have had no problems with them.
