I never thought of the camera view, of course that makes sense. I have kind of found my comfortable length and it is often 4 inches or occasionally a little longer depending on what I am trying to do at the time. Sometimes just about 3, so I guess I do do what many of you suggested, so thank you for that. I wasn't tempted to try using the shorter length, but I do like to understand who others do what they do and if there is a right or a wrong. I do tend to choose whatever I feel most comfortable with.
Thank you all for your very helpful and interesting answers. Sue T Could be short to accommodate the camera, so that everything fits in the viewing 'window' ? The tether length varies for me depending on the number of bobbins, type of lace, on whatever pillow and what space I need at the time (does that help?!)
