If you want narrow bobbins but with a square end, you should check out the bobbins made by Richard Pikul in Canada. They are as slim as a midlands but flare out at the bottom.

He weights the ends inside with lead, but it does not cling to a magnet. Tried it. Wonder if he could weight them with something that would be more attractive to a magnet? My DD had a pair of bobbins made for me for a special occasion, and we have had them for commemorative bobbins at my guild.
