I do not know what printer they have since we have all sorts of
printers doing CTP on their RIP. They will not use just one
printer. That's why my best shot is to approximate Acrobat Reader so that
no one can complain.

My colleague said to me if the preview is imported into PhotoShop
and changed into CMYK color space and change back into RGB, the look is
more closer to Acrobat Reader.

- How was your PDF file generated?
Could you alternatively generate a device independent PDF file,
which uses CIE based color spaces instead of DeviceCMYK?

It is not possible at the moment since our PDF software won't support CIE-Based color space.

OK, I see your problems.

What about choosing a printing press standard like e.g. SWOP for interpreting the CMYK values?
Then you could at least claim your PDF files are intended for SWOP.

And if I run "gs USWebCoatedSWOP.csa pdf_405840.pdf", then the results IMO also look much closer to acroread than "gs pdf_405840.pdf".

(USWebCoatedSWOP.csa is a CSA I've created from the USWebCoatedSWOP.icm profile)
