Tom, I followed the steps given. Instead of copying the two interfaces files I cut an pasted them in a Hypertem window where I used edit to modify the Bering/Shorewall files to make them match the examples. When I tried to back up the Shorewall package I get:
Creating shorwall.lrp Please wait: \tar: var/lib/shorewall: No such file or dire ctory tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors Copying shorwall.lrp Please wait: Back-up of shorwall complete Why does the backup fail? I should note that I am trying to update to the Shorewall 1.3.6 release. I am planning to start fresh with the 1.3.3 release to see if it will work. Additionally I can try copying the files using dos2unix but if I can't back up the packages it won't help. I also tried to start Shorewall once I had rebooted and still get: # shorewall start /var/lib/shorewall/functions does not exist! There is no /var/lib/shorewall directory present.
