Exactly, which is why a potentially very good bid from Adam Pearson and 
others did not materialise.  They kept asking KPMG to guarantee 
membership of the Football league which KPMG could not do and because of 
its ruled the FL would not do anyway.  This was well documented at the 
time.  And my explanation is meant to clarify this.  This is why the FL 
want to see the full details of the transaction.

KPMG knew full well that this would be the case when they left the court 
and advertised the fact that the club was up for sale.  Only Bates was 
willing to buy the club without a Football League Golden Share.  He 
believes that through the tactic of a stand-off the FL will climb down 
and make him an exceptional case.  11 hours of meetings between KPMG and 
the FL this week still haven't produced a result for Bates.  Rules is 
rules and Mawhinney is sticking to them.  Er, at the moment................
