I can envisage many different circumstances and situations in which agents 
were paid by clubs and not by players, especially when you know the history 
of the goings on at our club.  A decision was made on some of a VAT bill and 
in a particular set of circumstances re Newcastle. Unless you have some 
evidence that the circumstances are exactly the same at Leeds as they were 
in the Newcastle instances decided in that case, then you simply don't know 
what items would be excluded from HMRCs figures by that precedent. Clearly 
HMRC do not agree with your assumptions and they at least are in possession 
of the facts.
Would you be having this argument where you defend the club against all 
comers if we were discussing Readmans liquidation for example ?
