Bloody awful this was. I think you could go through
the side picking weaknesses with most of our players,
many of whom just didnt do their job however the main
weakness of all is that collectively as a team we are
not gelling and do not play football.
Occasionally we played a one-two or a few decent
passes and it really stood out as being inventive and
clever.Howson to Flo, Flo to Howson was one such move
that made the stand erupt in applause when truthfully
it was very basic football. Most of the time we
battled hard to get control of the ball and then
either got caught in possession or lost it through
terrible passing or poor control. We looked like a set
of misfits. Compare this to Crewe who were comfortable
on the ball , passed the ball simply but effectively
and broke with pace from midfield at up front.
Fantastic little team on this performance but we let
them play. There was a massive gap in front of our
central back two today that they exploited to the
full. I thought with Prutton driving the team forward
and putting in that extra effort Howson would be able
to play his game and make a difference. Unfortunately
he just didnt step up to the mark today and was
largely anonymous going forward and just absent when
it came to defending. Ok hes only 17 but in games
like this he has to contribute or he shouldnt be
wearing that white shirt. Mcallister went for Fraser
in midfield. Didnt work just like last time he played
there. Yes he showed plenty of effort and he had a
couple of decent shots and runs but his distribution
with just about every pass was lacking. Simple balls
and simple crosses just seem to be beyond him. At left
back Sheehan looks like a timid mouse. He looks
completely out of his depth. Im no fan of Ben Parker
but bloody hell if he was watching this then he will
be mightily pissed off not to get a go next week.
Sweeney on the left is a complete luxury player nice
left foot but never uses it and very rarely gets the
ball. Garbage.
So with a one man midfield it was no surprise that our
tall, one paced attack partnership never got a sniff.
Both managed to carve out one or two chances but
neither is going to do it on his own and when Kandol
was put in the clear what did he do ? He checked back
and the chance was gone. He was through. A striker
with no confidence ? Maybe ? Or lack of general
ability. Ill go with the second option. Flo on the
other hand has ability and again showed many good
touches coupled with the odd bad one but he was
playing deep and thats no good when he gets the ball
plays it off neatly then needs to get in the box. Just
didnt work today at all as a team.
The proof to me that the problem lies in midfield is
the way Rui was put under pressure time and time again
until he finally lost it towards the end and nearly
conceded a goal. Crewe had chance after chance and
really should have buried us in the second half. The
space they had in midfield allowed them to run at Lubo
and Rui making them look nervous and unsure. Lubo
looked so calm last season in the championship but at
the moment he looks slightly nervous and unsure. He
also doesnt look like a threat in their box.
So where is the early influence of Mcallister? Well ,
all I can see is that the team have been told to take
quick , short free-kicks (completely ineffective
-Batty style) and short corners. How bloody
frustrating is that ? Second half we get a free kick
on our right. Prutton and Richardson stand over it.
Rui, Kandol , Flo and Lubo all 6ft + waiting in the
box. Richardson plays it short to Prutton who is
closed down and forced to go square to Howson who in
turn is closed down and forced to go square to Sweeney
who loses the ball. Crewe then break down their right
, their bloke crosses it and its an easy side foot in
to the bottom corner. 1-0. What an absolute disaster
that goal was and if Mcallister cant see that in this
division you have to get the ball into the box for set
pieces then he will fail at this level. Lets face it
Kandols only chance of scoring was going to be if
somebody put it on his head from a yard out. Late on
this happened as their keeper came and completely
missed it giving Kandol the easiest of goals. I
thought it was funny when Adam Pope asked Mcallister
post match if he was pleased for Kandol for
discovering his goal touch. Mcallister just said
Lets just say he kept going. Translated that means
he was shit and he was.
Casper 7. Our best player. Kept us in the match.
Kenton 6. Did ok.
Sheehan 2. A mouse of a player.
Lubo 5. Unsure and shaky.
Rui 6. Did well but was put under immense pressure
at times.
Richardson 4. Tried hard but distribution not even
up to pub team standard.
Howson 3. Looked like a under 9s player amongst
grown men. Completely out of his depth.
Prutton 7. Worked hard was a one man midfield but
lacked quality at crucial times.
Sweeney 3. Complete luxury. What does he contribute
?
Kandol 2. One for the goal and one for the shot in
the first half. Apart from that he was bloody woeful.
Flo 4. Despite some nice touches he didnt threaten
the goal, didnt hurt Crewe at all and playing
alongside Kandol just made us look leg heavy and
completely off the pace up front.
Subs:
Carole 1 Absolute garbage. Complete waste of space.
Johnson 6. Thought he looked ok and did make a
difference.
Ellding 5. Again he did ok and won a few headers and
caused a few problems.
Macca 2. Training games are different to the real
thing. Macca said that hed learnt a lot from this
game. Lets hope so.
Crowd shite. Booing at half-time. Fcking tossers
some of the folk at Leeds these days,
