I am pretty sure that it isn't that simple and I am sure some physicists on the list may comment (if there are any). There are far too many external influences that come into play that if they change by the slightest degree will change the balls path, for example, slight changes in temperature altering pressure in the ball, ball sitting slightly higher in the turf, boots becoming slacker (or tighter) may alter the shape of the contact patch with the ball, wind speed and direction, to name a few.

Are pitches the same size? I thought that there were guidelines that said a pitch could be between a maximum and minimum size for length and width.

Could it be that the ballet dancers
You saw are at the top of their profession Whilst the players
we have are one up from non league hoofers ( with one or two
exceptions) and as such planting the ball on the penalty spot
from the corner flag will always be the exception rather than
the rule.

Or (in short) we have a shite team

But my observations apply to football players at all levels, especially when it comes to corners. It's the same size ball, it's stationary, the pitches are the same size, yet time and time again you see players kick the ball from one side of the pitch to the other, or more usually, straight at the first defender (eg Ian Harte). If they practiced harder, they would be better surely.
