My name is Terry, I'm 68 years old in April and I'm a Leedsoholic.
The first game I can actually remember being at was at home to Hull City on
the 18th March 1950. Looking at the records we won 3-0 but the thing that
has stuck in my mind is the late, great (then young) John Charles putting
the Hull City player manager England international Raich Carter in his
pocket at the start of the game and keeping him there for the whole 90
minutes.
Carter was so frustrated that mid-way through the second half he
deliberately raked his studs down Charles's thigh leaving four parallel
cuts. The trainer poured iodine on them right in front of where I was stood
with my Dad (in the West Stand Paddock at the Elland Road end) and Charles
played on with his thigh dyed yellow and the blood trickling out of the
scratches. We got the free kick but the ref never even spoke to Carter let
alone cautioned him.
These softies today don't know they're born!!
