I guess you can't really debate things like Beckford without having to label
yourself in the "support no matter what" category, or the "boo hiss" brigade. I
am mearly debating outloud what myself, and probably a lot of people, are
thinking. What has caused us to so dramatically lose form, belief, passion, and
desire as a team?
Maybe because of all his goals, Beckford is above criticism from some. I don't
see looking critically at a player as a bad thing, its what the purpose of
debate is all about. But just look at the hard facts then: since the manu game,
Beckford has scored 3 goals in open play in 14 league matches. His goal scoring
record is 2 against Colchester (1 a pen), 1 against Brentford, and 2 against
Tranmere (1 a pen). That is a very poor return in this division, and certainly
one of the reasons why we find ourselves in such trouble. Just as the first
half of the season, you couldn't find fault with Beckford because of his strike
rate, now you have to look at his strike rate and admit its not been good
enough.
We kept him at the club for one reason: to score more goals and get us
promoted. If he doesn't do that, it was a mistake to keep him, and I do believe
his presence in the dressing room is probably disruptive. Not bothered if
people agree with me or not. Would be a lot more interesting if people could
respond with more qualified statements than just rubbish, what to me, is a
valid point.
The whole team is underperforming, and I am not saying its ALL Beckford's
fault. I am just saying this is one reason for it, and a big one at that.
