OK we are all hoping that the result (and some of the performance) at Yoevil is
the turning point and the start of a good run of results, especially since all
(apart from maybe Charlton away) of our remaining games are winnable on paper,
But given the form of Millwall, Swindon etc automatic promotion is very
difficult to achieve - it may all come down to the last day of the season when
we should beat Bristol Rovers BUT may need the right result of Millwall v
Swindon (whatever that result may be).
As for the play offs it is hard to see how we can qualify for promotion that
way - even forgetting Charlton, Watford , Doncaster and Millwall in previous
play offs - we are looking at playing either Swindon who have beaten us 0 -3
and 0 -3 or Millwall who hammered us 0 2 and 0 2, or Huddersfield who we have
drawn with 2 - 2 both games but been the poorer side both times and both games
we were not struggling for goals as we are at the moment, or Charlton who in
our only meeting so far we got a 0 0 home draw.
So, to date, we have not managed a single victory against any of the 4
prospective opponents and have been totally stuffed twice by 2 of them.
Add to that the fact that we could not even beat a poor Carlisle team over a
two legged final when we needed to, and you can see why my confidence like that
of most (all ?) of my mates is at an all time low.
Then looking at next season the chances are that Southampton will walk the
league and that will leave us fighting again for second place and if a posting
on some sites of an alleged conversation with Bates is true we will be trying
to do it with worse players than we currently have !
