Hello Tim Its construction grade plywood and pine. I used a red mahogany stain first, and then I used a special walnut stain over the hole lower stage. I finished with three coats of Amber shellac, I wish my camera was working, the color undertones are very neat, (I'm sorry to say that the camera on my phone doesn't do the finish justice.) Thank you for the comment. The upper part of the stage will not be used much, I made it to be easily removed (four knobs) that part is maple sealed with amber shellac. (no stain) the upper part of this project was a last min. change, The owner wants this stage to be able to use both string puppets as well as hand puppets. This hole stage folds up into a 5"x 36" x 4' solid panel so it can be easily stored when not in use. It was a fun project, that took a little longer to do than expected, but as I said earlier, It was finished on time and the Owner is very happy with it. I was paid $250.00 for this project. (so If you add my time and materials I realy did not make a lot on this, But its a Special Christmas present that hopefully will last for many years.) I have to run.( Its time to go to church.)
