Thank you both Bill and Roger.
Bill, YES the TK quick gear changer is a dream to use. It stays on my machine
99% of the time.I think of it like a truck with 4 wheel drive,  You don't need
it most of the time, but when you do. It so nice to have. ;-)

Looks great on the bone curt I bet Tim Ks quick change reversing gears helped a
lot with doing it

It’s a pain when you have to swap the gears over to do the other direction and
hoping the teeth

mesh right.

Hello again everyone.

Its not 100% done but here is today's bone "Diamond Pattern" also called
Checkering.

This simple pattern is a very real pain.  12 starts right handed and then
reversed 12 left.

4" pitch. Using a V bit at a 1/16" depth of cut/plunge .

My nerves are shot after doing this one. I found myself holding my breath a
number of time

while cutting.

Im going back out to the shop now and make some sawdust.   this one is to much
like work for me

to do on a Sunday. ;-p

Have a great day everyone.

Thanks Curt, there was some interesting processes explained this time.

So basically you flatten the run the hole saw through again. Now I'm liking
this process more.

see I run the disc with out the hole then drill the hole after I flatten them.
More accurate but much slower.

Now I will see how that goes for me, Sunday.

Out all day tomorrow at a Craft Fair selling lasered goods.

Thanks again for additional and much needed details.

Hello Again Tim.

The beauty of this jig. is you can drill any size hole,  Most pen turning kits
use some type of brass rod, you can use your collet chuck and drill out any
size hole you need, then putting a dowel or another rod in the V block will
make sure everything is set properly for what ever size disk you want to make.

I do like the barrel trimer inside the diamond hole saw, it speeds things up
greatly for me.

What I do it drill/flatten with the barrel trimmer, one side of the bone disk
only, and then drill out the disk all together with another hole saw of the
same size as the barrel trimer, the sanding will flatten the other side,

this method gives me a thickest disk possible (form the bone I'm cutting.) One
side is flat, (giving me  a flat to put against the V block.)  Sanding takes
seconds to do,   Bone sands so quickly its scary, compared to the way it cuts.
(which is MUCH slower.)

I have to get to work now.

Have a good day. (I will be back at "O"Dark hundred/ Midnight. )  ;-)

Tim the method is the rod in the V block.

The hole I drill into the disk is the same as the rod (its a snug fit ). by
putting the disk over the rod, and then moving the block to the sanding disk
,The bone disk is in-between  the two flat surfaces. sand, turn the disk 90
deg. and check to make sure the disk in flat, then inspect the hole disk for
any flaws, Re-sand if nessasary, or put the sanded disk in the jar for glue up.

The hole process only takes a few sec. per disk. WAY faster then the old method.

I hope this helps?

Hey Tim.

Can you be more clear, More pix? of which part?

Here is another photo of the sanding of my disks.

What I did here is, I put a brass rod (the same as the ones I use on my
project.) In this Vee block. the brass rod is holding the disk, the back side
of the disk is flat on the steel Vee block. I clamped the straight edges pieces
of wood onto my table. using this as my guide to keep the disk and the sanding
plate square to each other.

I sand the disk flat, and then turn 90 deg. and kiss the disk again to make
sure the bone is flat and true to the Vee block.

Sanding bone is very quick, although somewhat messy/dusty. I weir my raspier
mask when sanding.

On the good side of things, using this method, lets me use small/thinner bone
disks that I would have throw away using my earlier methods. (basically due to
there being no way I could hold the very thin bone disk in a chuck to face off
.)

I hope this helps answer some of the questions?

Have a good night.

As I make more the time is getting much better.

I've been using a new method of trueing up the bone, I am sanding the bone on a

used in the past work, but this new way is more precise then the first way I
sanded the disks, and much faster the using the steel lathe.
