Alistair, I have tried to recreate this, but I don't seem to see what you see.
I go to, for example, Descendant Book Report. On the right, I select PDF file. Now I click on the icon Create. I type in a filename ("test") and click Save. After two seconds where not much is happening (except page numbers are counting up underneath the printer image on the right), the Preview screen pops up and so does a dialog box that states "The ...test.pdf file has been created. Would you like to view the PDF file?" I don't see a temporary RTF anywhere in this process. Is my computer so fast, that it doesn't show? Do you have an old computer? if you watch carefully what is happening, Legacy goes through two processes. First it creates a formatted text file that is much better than its RTF file, then it goes on to create the PDF.
