Actually, there seem to be lots of names for it, including Intellishare :-).
You're right though, Unique Identifier seems to be the proper gedcom name
for the tag "_UID".

My understanding has always been that in Gedcoms UID stands fo "Unique
Identifier" and *not* "Universal ID"
